I AM A BOYS CHOIR's this is a play by jane austen is an adaptation of a version of a play inspired by our appropriation of all of Jane Austen's novels, or, specifically, Jane Austen on film and Gwyneth Paltrow's British accent.
Letters. Long, whistful stares out a bedroom window. Dances. Balls. Secrets. Scandal. News from Kent shared between two women dressed in night gowns. Their mother (who is ridiculous) in an uproar over the advantageous marriage of a lesser woman. Demonstrations of accomplishments after supper. Layers upon layers of parlor/garden/lakeside strolling before dinner/tea time/pondside conversations. Moments of love, lust, longing interrupted by sighs of quiet desperation and church giggles.
And a despicable "woman" is playing Justin Bieber's "Baby" on the piano forte.
